The B &B has 5 liberty style furnished rooms, with antiques furniture and floors, in harmony with the elegance and tradition of thePalazzo Didonna. Some of them have access to a private balcony, while it is available to all customers a wide veranda with deckchairs and tables.
The B & B has a double suite for customers who want maximum comfort. Apulia is an ancient land rich of secular traditions and folklore. Rutigliano also involves the population in many events related to the history and traditions of its territory.
St. Maria of Colomn and St. Nicola Churches
The Matrix Church of Rutigliano, built in Romanesque style, is dated from the tenth century. It preserves valuable artistic works such as the Romanesque bell tower, the baroque dome and a portal whose lintel shows an eleventh-century bas-relief depicting Christ among the apostles. Inside three aisles you can admire some perimeter frescoes and a precious wooden polyptych by Antonio Vivarini from the late fifteenth century.
The Whistle Museum welcomes whistles and handcrafted products made of terracotta and strictly hand-painted with bright colors, bonded, as it’s known, to the famous fair and in the national competition, held during the celebration of the feast of St. Antonio Abate.
The Norman Tower, 34 meters high and located in the castle courtyard at the entrance of the ancient village, dominates, since the eleventh century, the Rutigliano landscape. It is what remains of an ancient castle of the Byzantine-Norman origin, made destroy in 1618. The tower, with a quadrangular base with about two meters thick walls and narrow slits, presents several overlapping floors up to a terrace at the top and preserves, inside, the fifteenth-century frescoes.
Palazzo Antonelli is a valuable historic residence dating from the sixteenth century always belonged to the same family for more than five centuries: the Antonelli Counts. In the building, example of Renaissance architecture, you can admire the big mask of the entrance door, the terracotta floor, the kitchens, the wooden altar at the entrance of the main floor, the walls lime painted and the roofs by beams, the wooden window frames and doors painted, just as they were in the seventeenth century.
On a small hill along the marsh San Giorgio, among the remains of an important Neolithic village and the natural beauty of the Mediterranean maquis, there is the Annunciation rural church. The church was born probably between the twelfth and fourteenth century with the purpose of giving a shelter for pilgrims. Every year, on the day of Easter Monday, it becomes a meeting place for the traditional and folkloristic ritual of ‘Passa Passa’.
